In the meantime, here's a sketch I did of my favourite character from one of my favourite Australian shows as a kid, Mr Squiggle. For any non Australians, it was a puppet show with the main character being Mr Squiggle, a man from the moon with a huge pencil for a nose, who came to earth in his little ship and took kids' limited squiggles and turned them into great art. Bill the Steamshovel (above) was one of the other puppet characters. It was a great show, and makes me wonder what happened to the puppet show in general. TV used to be littered with them and many of them were brilliant. Anyone know what crazy thinking deemed the puppet show outdated or obsolete?? Might have something to do with CG animation and motion capture taking over, though puppets were so much more fun.
One of my first memories of drawing was after watching Mr Squiggle, trying to draw a pig that was drawn on the show. It was such a fun tv show that I wish they'd bring back, I'm sure it would still be a hit, it would sure encourage kids to get creative again. Look it up on Youtube if you can.
Anyway, I'll leave it there, though I might put some other characters up soon. And I'll leave you with something I did a little while ago, just cause it was lying around.
Thanks guys, see you real soon.
